I’m in the middle of my move from Mailchimp to Substack and thought now would be a good time to clarify a few things.
First, if you are one of my Mailchimp subscribers, and are reading this, it means that the import of my mailing list to Substack has been successful so “yay” for that.
If you are NOT reading this – and have no idea I even sent it – you will become aware next Monday when I ask you about it in my usual Mailchimp letter. And we will sort you out if needed.
Second, if you are a new subscriber via Substack, I ask for your patience as I add 23 more posts to my Substack archive in the coming days. And for getting emails like this one telling you what the heck is going on.
My usual posting schedule is a new newsletter every Monday afternoon and I’ll be trying to stick to that regarding emails. If I put anything small up on Substack between times, it will be “web” only and should not clutter up your email box.
As I rebuild my archive on Substack, I’ve been trying hard to hit “publish online only” so no one gets a newsletter they already read. Apologies in advance if I mess that up and any accidental emails come through.
Lastly, time to talk about the “branding” of my writing.
Once upon a time I had a blog (it’s still there if you go look) called “Overbooked & Underpaid: Notes From A Yes-a-holic.” It was pretty fun but because I was so massively overbooked I couldn’t really keep up with it. There’s still a lot of great stuff there though – including a lot of my favorite recipes and cooking tips.
Then, in 2015, I started “Anne & God: Conversations With The Infinite”, writing and illustrating what I thought were comics but John Glynn at Andrews McMeel Universal said were more like poems. To this day I don’t really know what to call them. Are they comics or illustrated poems?
I’ve settled on comics/poems.
These comic/poem mashups were designed to be mostly funny and consisted of snarky conversations between me and an unnamed higher power. I immediately knew I had found my best voice and also immediately knew I had a big problem because as soon as you put the word “God” into anything you are going to polarize people and you also really run the risk of misunderstanding of what the material is and whether or not it is religious.
“God” or not, what I do is hardly religious. In fact, I pissed off a fair number of people who actually think it’s blasphemous.
Sigh.
So, as I make this transition to Substack, I’m aiming for a little reinvention.
The comics/poems themselves will not change at all. But instead of being called “Anne & God” my Substack is called “Anne The Passive Aggressive Poet”.
I built a lot of branding around “Anne & God” that I don’t want to lose so my website of that name will remain and, any time you wish to, you can find it at anneandgod.com. The only naming change will be to the newsletter.
Hopefully this is all clear.
Next Monday’s newsletter should be the last one to go out via Mailchimp.
Readers who are only on Substack will NOT get an email newsletter because of this. But I WILL duplicate the newsletter on my page on Substack.
Thank you, again for all your support – some of you have been with me for years – as I jump into this new version of myself!
If you want to reach out, best email will be anne@annemorsehambrock.com
Welcome to Substack! As a theologian, I love your comic/poems to the Universe.
Got it!
