Issue #47 Procrastination
And…
Every year, round about October, as I clear up the garden, I make a vow to save money next time by starting seeds indoors.
Where I live, that means getting my act together in February or March.
Which never happens.
Oh wait, I think I did it once.
Maybe in 2002.
Partly it’s because starting seeds indoors was annoyingly complicated.
It required all those little seed cup things, special dirt, special plant food, trays, shelves and, because my window space was very limited, “grow lights”. (Not being a person who regularly grew other types of – ahem – “indoor crops” – I did not own grow lights.)
It was messy and aggravating and time consuming and, in the end, I don’t remember having many viable seedlings that survived eventual transplant.
But let’s be honest.
Lots of people manage to overcome all those obstacles and have lovely “home grown” gardens as a result.
What it really comes down to is that I am a hard-core procrastinator.
To the outside world it often looks as though I am really on top of things.
And I can be.
Particularly when it involves the stuff I like doing. (Even then I frequently push my obligations riiiiiiiiight up to deadline.)
All the annoying or intimidating bits - not so much.
Sometimes those get shoved into the closet.
Perhaps with a hope that, the next time I open the door, everything will have been magically whisked into another dimension.
I know I should do better.
And I try, I really do.
But I think procrastination is just part of my DNA.
Apologies if you are one of the people waiting for me to deal with something.
I’ll get it to you.
Eventually.
Unless it’s been whisked to another dimension.

Note
When I chose this week’s theme I had no idea that there is actually something called “National Procrastination Week”.
From Wikipedia: “National Procrastination Week is a national holiday devoted to procrastination and putting off important tasks. It is an annual even that takes place the first two weeks of March, but, in the spirit of the holiday, the specific dates change annually.”
Ironically, I may actually be ahead of the curve on this one :-)
It turns out the holiday is rather controversial - you can read more about it here.
Book Progress
Yes, this is another thing I’ve been dragging my feet on - but things are progressing.
Here is a peek into part of my process. This is the bit after I’ve whittled things down to 80 and have started working on page order.
I’ll post again when I’m ready to start taking pre-orders.
From The Garden
Despite my terrible track record with seedlings I am pretty good about planting bulbs.
My favorite thing is that, once established, they just do their thing every year and I never have to deal with them again. I just get to enjoy them over and over :-)
Their re-emergence at this time of year is very helpful in the “Cheer up, Spring is almost here” department.
Keep The Messages Coming!
