Issue #24 Difficult Anniversaries
9/11
It’s hard to believe it’s been 22 years since the day that changed so much.
As someone who tries primarily to be light, funny and casual with my poems and overall writing, I struggle every year with how to handle this anniversary. I know others do as well.
Do we stake this day out on the calendar in perpetuity for memorials? Or do we move away from that back to business as usual?
I don’t have a good answer so I’ve split the difference and am doing both.
Please navigate today in the way that feels best to you.

Marauder
Trumpet Vine.
Feeder of Hummingbirds.
Invader of Worlds.
When we planted this thing it took probably three years to do anything significant or produce flowers.
Then it proceeded to eat our garage and send up shoots all over the back yard.
We keep a portion of it for the hummingbirds but now know to hack it back to almost nothing every year.
