Get Thee Behind Me - NOT
I’m doing things a little differently this week.
Instead of writing about this poem/comic, I’ve embedded video from my recent performance at the White Lilac. The show was a mixture of my original harp music and the stories behind my poems and is indicative of what you get if you ever book me to come visit your book club or house party.
The clip is fairly long because it starts with an explanation of where my music comes from, and why jazz song titles never seem to mean anything, and then segues into the audience request for the story of this poem. I’ve uploaded the whole thing because, well, frankly, I couldn’t figure out how to actually edit things down.
(Largely because I do so little video editing that, every time I try, all the tools and software have changed and I either have to download a new app or relearn an old one etc. It makes my head hurt. And I’m just not up for it today.)
If you want to skip straight to the “line” story it begins about 2:13. This clip also includes the intro for the next clip (of me actually playing my tune Vinnie Goes To Washington) and the story behind that title.
Jazz on the harp and why you should never get in line behind me.

Autumn Roses
Just when I think everything is done I am surprised by these lovely autumn roses in my front yard.
