Short this week - prepping for my upcoming show this Sunday!
As usual, actual happenings from my actual life. At least I noticed before I left home…

Winding Down The Garden
Things are wrapping up in the garden. Some of the tomatoes have already pretty much done their thing and been yanked while others still have a few tasty fruits to offer. Two of the plants suddenly seem to have gotten a second wind and are putting out tons of new growth. Pretty sure that’s going to get nipped in the bud (pun intended) by October frost soon.
The foliage finally gave up but the giant zucchini are hanging out in the dirt because we have no earthly idea what to do with them once they get that big and tough.
On the hot pepper front it was a dismal year. Apparently the weather that had us drowning in tomatoes was not so great for the peppers. Which is a shame because you need lots of both for great salsa :-)
What with the big porch project, we really never got around to planting flowers this year so, in a burst of guilt I splurged on cheap mums from Menards this week in hopes that we could squeeze the last bits of summer/fall blooming time out of the rapidly shortening days.
Get The Latest Book!
The new books are listed in my online store where they await your purchasing pleasure :-)
Not Going So Great For A Lot Of Folks
There are times when I really struggle with publishing humor on my regular schedule. This mostly happens when something really big and/or tragic is happening in the world.
There are the crises that are ongoing – wars, pestilence, famine etc – and I’ve learned I can’t let those things interfere with my work or I could pretty much never publish anything. On any given day something awful is happening somewhere.
But then there are big moments where a whole bunch of people experience a single devastating event at the same time.
Hurricane Helene is one of those events. It’s really hard for me to chime in with my chirpy little comics when so many people are currently struggling with a lack of power, or worse, a loss of all their possessions or, even worse, loss of a loved one.
If you have been impacted by this catastrophic storm my heart goes out to you. I hope you have family and friends and community lifting you up and that the organizations that are supposed to be helping you get through this are doing their job.
If you are safe, as I am, and want to help please consider donating to the Red Cross to help with the relief efforts.
