Rain is my friend.
We are on quite good terms during light “meditation enhancing” showers and sprinkles.
We are the best of buddies when I have planted a garden that I wish to see flourish.
And rainy days give me the excuse I need to catch up on indoor chores instead of outdoor ones, especially when I am dreading the back breaking weed-pulling session in said garden.
I am thrilled when the farmers get that Goldilocks growing season where the rain is not too much nor too little but juuuuust right.
But occasionally our relationship sours.
There have been some spats when the outdoor concerts I was really really really looking forward to attending became washed out disappointments.
We were not on speaking terms for a week after the time that bride refused to move her ceremony indoors and the heavens opened with potentially disastrous results for my harp.
And we almost broke up for good in 2020 when it rained for 40 days and 40 nights so leading to an epic flood in my basement.
So, as with all friendships, there have been ups and downs.
This year has tested our bond a bit.
Because the garden is doing GREAT but the porch renovation is decidedly BEHIND SCHEDULE thanks to the fact that we have not had a stretch of 72 rain free hours since the middle of June.
Certain parts of the project, like the sealing of the roof panels and the painting of the superstructure, have been like a chess match between my husband and the weather.
Move and countermove.
Currently the rain has the upper hand.

Book Clearance Sale!
My first book collection has been through a few changes since its initial publication in 2018. (It turns out this is nothing unusual - publishers and authors change titles and covers all the time to shake up more sales.)
Long time readers will be aware that the first version was titled “Conversations With The Infinite” and featured the door knocker poem on the cover. Then someone (OK it was me) felt maybe we should lean into the “God” side of things so the second title and cover were the one pictured above.
It turns out adding “God” to the title put me on the radar of some folks who definitely did NOT see the humor in what I was doing and went so far as to label me a blasphemer. On social media and Amazon no less.
Which is how we got to the title “Some Days Call For Chocolate and other pick-me-up poems”.
The material in the books did not change in any substantial way other than the cover, the title and the author’s note.
I still have about 20 copies of the second cover (pictured above) and, now that a few boxes of the newest collection have arrived, I need to free up some storage space.
So I’m giving you, my loyal Substack readers a nice opportunity to grab a couple copies at the bargain basement price of $8 per copy plus shipping.
The store link is here - when they are gone they are gone.
And while you are there, you can, of course, pick up a copy of the new book which is definitely NEW material.

Do You See A Face?
I do :-)
Garden Bonus
I just love the way bulbs spread. We inherited these Tiger Lilies when we bought the house and I only remember about two of them.
Porch Progress
The roof is finished and we are delighted with it! No leaks and just the right amount of UV filtering to keep the porch comfortable on the hottest days.
If it ever stops raining the knee walls are next…
